STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team dropped it's final regular season home game, 4-2, to St. Thomas University this Wednesday evening at Ice Hawks Arena.
The Pointers (12-10-3) struggled to put anything together offensively until the third period scoring two goals, but were unable to overcome four Tommie (10-10-3) goals.
In the first period, the Pointers were out shot 13 to 6 and of those 13 shots, St. Thomas scored two goals. At 12:20 Rylie McDonnell scored the first goal for the Tommies, while Eliie Tabaka followed less than two minutes later with another quick goal.
After a scoreless second period, St. Thomas added two goals at the five and seven minute marks for a commanding four goal lead. The Pointers poured on 15 shots in the period, doubling the first two period shots combined and managed two goals.
At 7:44 and on the power play,
Meredith Ingbretson (Hayward, WI/Hayward), assisted by
Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo), found the back of the net to break up the shutout. A little over two minutes later,
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig), assisted by
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake), netted her team leading 15th goal of the season to make it a 4-2 game. UWSP followed with eight shots on goal after the second goal, but fell short in the comeback attempt.
The Pointers wrap up its regular season with a non-conference game at Concordia University (Wis.) on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Pointers and Falcons are set for a 12 p.m. matchup.
