STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Two unanswered goals in the third period led to the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey demise as the Pointers fell 2-1 to UW-Superior Friday evening at Ice Hawks Arena.
Senior Meredith Ingbreston scored the lone goal for the Pointers (12-9-2, 4-5-0 WIAC) in the second period, but the Yellowjackets (11-13-0, 2-7-0 WIAC) spoiled Senior Day scoring two unanswered goals in the third and final period.
After a null first period, Ingbretson scored her sixth goal of the season midway through the second period at 9:53.
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) assisted on the play for her 16
th assist on the season.
A Pointers cross-checking penalty at 1:22 of the third period led to a Yellowjackets power play goal. Molly Shelton tied the game at the 2:13 minute mark. In a little over four minutes, Leah Elledge and the Yellowjackets struck again for the outright lead. At 18:20, UWSP pulled goal tender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) for the person advantage, but were unable to capitalize.
With the loss, the Pointers remain the No. 3 seed and will travel to the No. 2 seed that will be determined Saturday, Feb. 11 between UW-Eau Claire and UW-River Falls.
UWSP will return to action in their final regular season home game against St. Thomas on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The Pointers and Tommies are slated for a 7 p.m. start time at Ice Hawks Arena.
