STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Junior
Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) set a school record with 10 made three-pointers as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (3-2) lead from wire-to-wire in a 91-77 victory over Hope (3-4) on Saturday.
Dodge scored a game-high 42 points, the second-highest single-game scorer in UWSP history. He had 17 points at the half and went 7-of-8 from long range in the second half. He shot 2-for-2 from the free throw line, added three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Senior
MJ Delmore (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) also scored in double figures with 13 points. He contributed four rebounds and four assists with two made three-pointers.
Mark Nelson (Madison, Wis./Monona Grove) opened the scoring with a three-pointer on the first possession of the game. Dodge got on the board four minutes in with a layup to put UWSP ahead 11-6. A minute later, Dodge hit his first three to give the Pointers their first double-digit lead.
Dodge and
Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) combined for seven points in a three-minute drought by Hope as UWSP went up 29-18. Later in the half, Delmore scored five-straight UWSP points and Dodge followed with the next seven.
Brett Tauber (Madison, Wis./Memorial) closed out a 9-0 run to build a 15-point lead, the largest of the game.
The Pointers' first five point of the second half came from Dodge. The Flying Dutchmen instituted the full court press and cut the lead to three midway through the second stanza.
From there, Dodge drained his five final three-point attempts of the game to set the record and secure the win for the Pointers.
UWSP continues a three-game home stand on Wednesday (Dec. 13) with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off against Lawrence.
