WINONA, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (4-4-1) scored three power-play goals to earn a 4-2 victory at Saint Mary's (5-5-0) on Friday night.
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia) broke a scoreless tie at the 7:26 mark of the first period. Her power-play tally was assisted by freshman
Emma Berthiaume (South Haven, MN/Hutchinson) and was the Pointers' first first-period goal of the season.
In the second period,
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Madison Capitols) found the back of the net on the power play to unknot a 1-1 tie.
Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) added a helper, her first of two assists on the night.
With a 2-1 edge in the third period, the Pointers got goals exactly three minutes apart from
Maddie Schlossmacher (Roseville, MN/Roseville) and
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater). Schlossmacher scored at even strength with assists to Lemirande and
Alex Grubbs (Minong, WI/Spooner). Biagini tallied the third UWSP power-play goal of the night with Smith and Lemirande adding assists.
SMU got a last minute goal, but the Pointers pulled out the 4-2 victory.
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) made 29 saves for the Pointers while SMU goaltender Ashley Corcoran stopped 15 UWSP shots.
The Pointers conclude the calendar year with a 2:00 p.m. game at Augsburg on Saturday (Dec. 9).
