Early Lead Wanes as No. 13 DePauw Downs Pointers

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (5-5) jumped out to a fast start, but host No. 13 DePauw (11-1) rallied to down the Pointers by a 58-46 score at the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Classic on Friday afternoon.

Senior Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) and Lexi Roland (New London, Wis./New London) tied for the team lead with 10 points apiece.  Mickey had four assists and grabbed three rebounds.   Lexi contributed a rebound and an assist.

Fellow senior Taylor Barrett (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) chipped in nine points with four boards and a pair of assists.  Sophomore Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) snagged four rebounds and added six points.

The three seniors each scored early as UWSP took a 7-0 lead two minutes into the game.  Three and a half minutes later, Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) hit her second three of the game to put the Pointers up 10-4.  The Tigers closed the quarter on an 8-3 run, but the Pointers led 13-12 after one.

Freshman Ashley Leiterman (Morrison, Wis./Denmark) scored early in the second quarter as UWSP regained the lead at 15-14, but the lead was short-lived as DePauw put up 10-straight.  Cerrato nailed a three to end the run, but UWSP trailed by a 24-18 score at the half.

Lexi Roland (New London, Wis./New London) hit from behind the arc to open the third quarter.  Brooke Geier (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) nailed a three at the mid-point of the quarter to snap a 12-2 run by the Tigers.  Barrett completed an and-1 later in the quarter, but the deficit stood at 13 heading to the fourth.

Midway through the fourth, Geier stole the ball on the full-court press and converted a layup to cut the lead to single digits.  Cerrato added a three late, but DePauw held on for the win.
