SUPERIOR, Wis. – Junior
Nate Dodge (East Troy, Wis./East Troy) scored 17 of his game-high 27 points in the first half as the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (2-2) won its 29th-consecutive game over UW-Superior, 70-57.
Dodge nearly matched his season high with 27 points on 7-of-11 shooting from three-point range. He added three steals and three boards in 25 minutes of play.
Senior
MJ Delmore (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) hit three of his five three-pointers to add 13 points. He also had three boards and dished out an assist in 25 minutes.
Delmore hit a three-pointer just 15 seconds into the game and the Pointers were off and running. Four minutes into the game, Dodge hit his first three of the contest to erase the Yellowjackets' only lead of the game. His triple was the first of four-straight possessions with a made three-pointer as the lead quickly jumped to nine for UWSP.
Brandon Spray (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) continued the three-point barrage with his only field goal attempt of the game. Later in the half, a 10-0 run behind threes by Dodge and
Drew Fredrickson (Mount Horeb, Wis./Mount Horeb) to up the lead to 19. Dodge and Delmore hit again from long range as the Pointers held a 43-23 halftime lead.
Blake Ehrke (Deerfield, Wis./Deerfield) nailed a three-pointer three minutes into the second half. Dodge hit his first triple of the second half and a pair of buckets by
Canon O'Heron (Bangor, Wis./Bangor) pushed the UWSP lead to 28.
Following an and-one by Fredrickson at the 9:26 mark, Dodge accounted for the next five UWSP points. The Yellowjackets ended the game on a 19-6 run, but UWSP's lead was too large to overcome.
The Pointers return home to begin a season-long three-game road trip on Saturday (Dec. 9). Tip-off against Hope College is slated for 3:00 p.m. and fans are encouraged to bring hats, gloves and/or scarves to donate to Madison Elementary students in need.
