Titans Use Big Third Quarter to Down Pointers

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On the second night of a back-to-back, the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (5-4) saw a three-point halftime deficit turn into a 92-69 loss at Illinois Wesleyan (8-2) on Saturday night.

Senior Lexi Roland (New London, Wis./New London) led the Pointers with 13 points.  She had three assists, three rebounds and a steal for UWSP.  Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) added 12 points to go with four rebounds and three assists.

Freshman Kellan Schmidt (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton) recorded her fourth game of the season in double figures with 10 points.  Fellow freshman Brooke Geier (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee) led UWSP with eight rebounds.

The Roland twins accounted for the first nine UWSP points.  Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) ended a five-point run by the Titans and Schmidt tied the game at 13-13.

Senior Taylor Barrett (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) had four points as the Pointers held a slight lead in the second quarter.  Later in the quarter, Cerrato hit a three and Schmidt scored a bucket to give the Pointers a one-point lead, but UWSP trailed by three at the half.

Barrett completed an and-one to tie the game at 38-38, but IWU used a 19-4 run over a nearly five minute drought from the field by the Pointers to pull away.

Four minutes into the fourth quarter, Ashley Leiterman (Morrison, Wis./Denmark) finished an and-one to cut the deficit to 14.  IWU went on a 9-0 run and put the game out of reach.

The Pointers return to action on Dec. 29 at Depauw for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off to open the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament in Greencastle, Ind.
