STEVENS POINT, Wis.—Sophomore forward
Luke McElhenie (Sauk City, WI) tallied two power-play goals in the second period to earn the No. 8/9 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team a 4-1 victory over Adrian on Wednesday night, completing the series sweep at K.B. Willett Arena.
In the second period, McElhenie tallied a pair of power-play goals to put the red-hot Pointers (10-3-2) up 4-0 over Adrian (8-3-0) entering the final period.
At 14:21 of the final period, Bryan Yim scored for the Bulldogs to pull within three.
Freshman forward Connor Roo got the Pointers on the board 2:24 into the game off assists from
Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, BC) and
Steven Quagliata (Bartlett, IL). Roo's goal gave UWSP a 1-0 lead over Adrian.
With 50 seconds remaining in the first period,
Wesley Ashley (Pittsburgh, PA) tallied his second goal of the season to keep the UWSP offense rolling with a 2-0 lead into the second period.
Senior goaltender
Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI/) made a season-high 35 saves for UWSP. Milosek set a season-best for the second consecutive contest.
The Pointers will resume play on Jan. 5 and 6 hosting Concordia (Minn.) and St. Olaf at K.B. Willett Arena.
