NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Senior
Taylor Barrett (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and recorded her first career double-double as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (4-3) rolled past North Central (1-7) on Monday night, 68-44.
Barrett scored 13 points, tying freshman
Ashley Leiterman (Morrison, Wis./Denmark) for the team-high in points. Leiterman added four assists, two steals and a block.
Lexi Roland (New London, Wis./New London) scored eight points with four rebounds.
Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) snagged nine rebounds and scored six points for UWSP.
Leiterman got the Pointers on the board and a
Mickey Roland (New London, Wis./New London) three led to a 5-0 lead as UWSP held NCC off the board for nearly three minutes to begin the game. Barrett completed an and-one to give the Pointers a 10-4 lead and
Lexi Roland (New London, Wis./New London) hit four free throws as UWSP held a 10-point edge after one quarter.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Leiterman finished an and-one as the Pointers built the lead to 13 points. With 34 seconds remaining in the half,
Taylor Greenheck (Sauk Prairie, Wis./Sauk Prairie) buried a three to end a five-minute drought from the field. UWSP held the Cardinals to just seven points in the quarter and led 37-20 at the half.
Carly Cerrato (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) capped a 7-2 run with a three-pointer to begin the third quarter as the Pointers held NCC scoreless over the first three minutes of the period. Leiterman wrapped another dominant quarter with a fast-break layup to send the game to the fourth quarter with UWSP ahead 53-29.
Barrett snapped a two and a half minute scoreless streak to begin the quarter. With 3:38 to go, Cerrato hit her second three-pointer of the game to give UWSP its biggest lead at 62-36.
The Pointers return home to face Ripon on Friday (Dec. 15) at 7:00 p.m. in Berg Gym.
