Pointers Skate to 2-2 Tie, Advance to Championship

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Junior forward Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK/) scored the lone goal of the shootout to advance the No. 8/10 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey to the championship round of the Holiday Tournament sponsored by Ascension, Friday night at K.B. Willett Arena.
After skating to a 2-2 tie, Karty found the back of the net in the first round of the shootout to advance UWSP (5-3-1) to the championship round on Saturday. Senior goaltender Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI/) made two saves in the shootout including the game-winner in the third round.
Following a scoreless first period, the Pointers found themselves playing from behind following Brett Wagner's goal that gave MSOE (5-1-1) a 1-0 lead midway through the second period.
In the third period, senior captain Willem Nong-Lambert (Des Moines, Iowa/) rallied the Pointers, netting his third goal of the season off assists from Karty and Colin Raver (Bartlett, IL) to even the game at one.
Midway through the final period Logan Fredericks (Millstone Township, NJ/) tucked one under the shoulder of MSOE goaltender Rock Boynton to put UWSP up one.
At 16:16 of the final period, Clint Garris evened the game for the Raiders, tallying a power-play goal to tie the game at two.
Milosek made 18 saves in the tie for UWSP.
The Pointers will take on Aurora in the nightcap tomorrow night (Nov. 25) at 7:30 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena. MSOE will face UW-Stout in the consolation game at 3:30 p.m.
