STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior forward
Willem Nong-Lambert (Des Moines, Iowa/) tallied a third period goal but was unable to kick start a comeback as the fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team fell, 2-1, to No. 1 St. Norbert Saturday night at K.B. Willett Ice Arena.
At the 3:19 mark of the third-period,Nong-Lambert tallied his second goal of the season to put the Pointers (5-3-0) within striking distance of the top-ranked Green Knights (6-0-0). Nong-Lambert's goal ended an 82:56 scoring drought for UWSP.
UWSP was unable to capitalize while skating with an extra attacker for the final 1:37 of the game.
The Pointers tallied nine shots in the opening period, including a breakaway chance from
Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK/), but were unable to find the back of the net in the opening period.
St. Norbert's Tanner Froese opened the scoring for Green Knights, tallying 21 seconds into the second period off assists from Brad Pung and Luke Davison.
Midway through the second period, Luke Karakas scored to put the Green Knights up 2-0 entering the third period.
Senior backstop
Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI/) recorded 30 saves for the Pointers. The UWSP penalty kill unit was able to hold off St. Norbert, killing off all six of SNC power plays.
The Pointers look to get back to their winning ways next weekend (Nov. 24 and 25) as they host the inaugural Holiday Tournament Sponsored by Ascension. UWSP will take on MSOE on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the tournaments opening round at K.B. Willett Arena.
