MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Junior forward
Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK/) scored his sixth goal of the season to lift the No. 5/6 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a 2-1 overtime victory over St. Thomas on Saturday night at St. Thomas Ice Arena.

Just 43 seconds into the extra period, Karty put home a loose puck in front of the net to earn UWSP (5-1-0) the 2-1 victory over St. Thomas (2-2-1). Karty's goal secured the Pointers a weekend sweep in Minnesota.

At the 17:43 mark of the first period,
Stephan Beauvais (Shelby Township, MI/) netted a power-play goal to put the Pointers on the board, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. With the win, UWSP improves to 5-0-0 on the young season when striking first.

In the second period, St. Thomas' Johnny Pavinca leveled the game at one, scoring an unassisted goal at the 10:52 mark.

UWSP put up nine shots in the third period, but was unable to find the go-ahead goal.Â

Senior backstop
Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI/) made a season-high 34 stops for the Pointers, including 10 alone in the third period.

The Pointers will return home next weekend taking on in-state rivals Marian and St. Norbert on Nov. 17 and 18. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena for both contests.

Friday nights game against Marian will also feature the Skyward Rally Towel giveaway, and Saturday's matchup is sponsored in memory of T.J. Pletcher.
