STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (0-1-1) netted two power-play goals and earned a 4-4 tie with St. Olaf (1-0-1) on Saturday afternoon.
The Oles opened the scoring with a power-play goal late in the opening period.
UWSP opened the second period on the power play and senior
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) netted the first goal of the season for the Pointers just 34 second into the frame.
Just 26 seconds later, the Oles regained the lead. Midway through the period, a turnover near the UWSP blue line led to a breakaway by St. Olaf giving the Oles a two-goal lead.
Junior
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia) notched the second power-play goal of the period at the 13:44 mark sparking an offensive outburst.
Less than a minute later, senior
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) netted her first of the year to tie the game at 3-3. The onslaught continued 36 seconds later as
Alex Grubbs (Minong, WI/Spooner) scored to put the Pointers in front.
The lead held until late in the third period. St. Olaf struck on a power play to knot the score at 4-4.
In overtime, the Pointers dominated play with nine of the 10 shots, but were not able to score the game-winner.
Sophomore
Marit Larson (Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul) played all 65 minutes in net for UWSP. She made 22 saves. St. Olaf keeper Kaitlyn Pellici turned aside 48 shots.
The Pointers wrap up a season-opening three-game home stand on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. match up against St. Norbert.
