STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior captain
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) netted a late third period goal to give the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team its first victory of the season, defeating St. Norbert 2-1 Tuesday evening at Ice Hawks Arena.
With less than four minutes to play in regulation, Punnett tallied her second goal of the season to give the Pointers (1-1-1) at 2-1 advantage over St. Norbert (0-2-0).
UWSP held off the Green Knights for the final 1:44 with SNC playing with an extra skater.
Rebecka Olson gave St. Norbert a 1-0 lead when she scored at the 16:15 mark of the first period.
In the second period,
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) scored her first goal of the season to even the game at one entering the final frame, before Punnett's late heroics.
Senior goaltender
Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) made 14 saves in her first victory of the season.
UW-Stevens Point returns to action trekking to Minnesota for a pair of match ups at St. Thomas on Nov. 3 and 4.
