STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (9-6-2) closed out non-conference play with a 3-0 win over visiting Edgewood (7-10-0) at Point Soccer Bowl on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore
Kassidy Spees (Nekoosa, Wis./) got the Pointers on the board in the ninth minute. Her initial shot attempt was blocked by the Eagles' defense, but she powered the second shot into the net for her fourth tally of the season.
In the 25th minute,
Olivia Bohnert (Oshkosh, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) caused a turnover near the top of the EC box. She gathered the ball, deked the defender and fired a shot into the net from about 12 yards out. Her unassisted tally was her first of the year.
Bohnert got an assist in the second half to help the Pointers extend the lead to 3-0. She found
Kortnee Hass (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) with a back pass in the 63rd minute and Hass curled a shot in off the post for her second goal of the year.
Senior goalkeeper
Sarah Peplinski (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) needed to make just one save in 71 minutes of action. She combined for the shutout with
Olivia Mecham (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee), who made three saves late to preserve the clean sheet.
Nora Hargett (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) led UWSP with four shots as the Pointers piled up 21 on the game while allowing just six to the Eagles in the match.
The Pointers conclude the regular season on Saturday (Oct. 28) at home against UW-Whitewater. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. and it will be Senior Day at Point Soccer Bowl.
