WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point women's track and field team finished second out of 10 teams at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic on Saturday. The Pointers finished with a total score of 112, just 23 points short of the host UW-Whitewater's first place.
Results
The trio of
Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale),
Alexia Beecher (Black Creek, WI/Shiocton), and
Briana Simonis (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) dominated the pentathlon with a top three finish. The trio finished with points of 3236, 2802, and 2795, respectively.
In the 3,000-meter run,
Bailey Wolf (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) finished in first place. Wolf crossed the finish line with a time of 10:45.03, 10 seconds faster than her seeded time. Fellow Pointer,
Kara Hoier (New London, WI/New London) finished in fourth with a time of 10:49.77.
In the shot put,
Karen Wethal (Evansville, WI/Evansville) finished in second place. Wethal finished with her best throw of 12.41.
Jordan Tyjeski (Beaver Dam, WI/Beaver Dam) finished in fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.35 meters.
Mid-distance runner
Kathy Derks (Greenville, WI/Hortonville) finished the 800-meter run with a third-place finish. Derks finished with a time of 2:19.04. Fellow Pointer
Emily Schlebecker (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) crossed the finish line with a time of 2:20.94, good for fifth place.
Hannah Mertens (West Bend, WI/Hartford Union) also contributed to the score for the Pointers, she finished the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.98, good for third. Teammates
Leah Trempe (Combined Locks, WI/Kimberly),
Sarah Vils (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee), and
Makani Peters (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) also helped the Pointers score with fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-place, respectively. The same women also teamed together for the 4x400-meter relay for a first-place finish with a time of 4:01.25.
In the 200-meter dash,
Lydia Ulrich (Lake Mills, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) helped score for the Pointers. Ulrich crossed the finish line with a time of 27.21, a time good for fourth place.
In the long jump,
Jamie Schmitz (Cashton, Wis./Cashton) finished in fifth place. Schmitz finished her jumps with a distance of 5.15 meter, and set a new PR for herself.
Anna Hogan (Omro, WI/Omro) in the triple jump finished in fifth place. Hogan finished her day with a distance of 10.48 meters.
The Pointers are back at the Multi Activity Center of February 4 for the Pointer Invite. The meet is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
