WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team finished second at the Leonard "Squig" Converse Invitational on the campus of UW-Whitewater on Friday. The Pointers earned 101 points, just 17.5 points shy of host UW-Whitewater's first place.
Results
Christian Ferguson (Milwaukee, Wis./SCTE) was the sole Pointer in the high jump and he earned a first-place finish, clearing at 2.00 meters. The first-place finish contributed ten points to the team score.
Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) finished first place in the 60-meter dash with a PR time of 6.84. Williams also earned second-place finishes in the long and triple jump with a distance of 7.47 and 14.22 meters, respectively.
Mackenzie James (Wauwatosa, Wis./East) followed Williams in the long jump with a distance of 7.02 meters, placing third.
Pointers Lukas Johnston and
Alex Richardson (Hales Corner, WI/Whitnall) went first and fourth in the 5,000-meter run. The duo came in with times of 15:28.33 and 15:42.67.
Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) finished in third place with 17.68 meter in the weight throw. Teammate
Brent Reierson (Watertown, WI/Watertown) earned third place in the shot put, with a distance of 15.45 meters.
In the 400-meter dash,
Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton) finished third with a time of 50.66, just one second shy of a first-place finish. Sosinsky later on went to help the Pointers in the 4x400-meter relay with teammates
Takuto Kobayashi (Franklin, WI/Franklin),
Dylan McGuire (Luxemburg ,WI/Luxemberg-Casco),
Michael Pomaville (Dousman, WI/Mukwonago) for a third-place finish and a time of 3:24.08.
Heptathlon athletes
Jeremy Lee (Viroqua, WI/Viroqua) and
Matthew Miller (Hillsboro, WI/Kickapoo) earned a third- and fourth-place finish. The pair respectively earned points of 2,540 and 2,352.
Former national qualifier, Jesse Johnson earned the Pointers a fifth place finish in the pole vault. Johnson cleared the bar at 4.60 meters.
In the 3,000-meter run,
Matt Stelmasek (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) finished with a time of 8:50.84, earning a fifth-place finish.
Mid-distance runner
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) earned a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run. Egbert finished with a time of 1:58.66.
In the men's one mile run,
Calvin VanRyzin (Appleton, WI/North) was the sole Pointer. VanRyzin crossed the line with a time of 4:30.66, good for seventh place.
UWSP's women's track and field team is in action at the Whitewater Invite tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Pointer's return to the Multi Activity center on February 4 for the Pointer Invite. The meet is set to begin at 10:30 a.m.
