STEVENS POINT, Wis. - A three-goal third period help lift the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team to a 4-0 victory over non-conference opponent Marian University this Tuesday evening at Ice Hawks Arena.
The Pointers (10-7-2) and Sabres (8-8-1) remained close in the first two periods as the Pointer clung onto a one goal lead. In the third period, the Pointers exploded for three goals leading them to a dominate 4-0 win.
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) led all scoring with two goals.
Closing out the first period, the Pointers took advantage of a Sabre checking penalty scoring a little over a minute into the power play. At 17:38 junior
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater), assisted by
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame), recorded her ninth goal of the season to put the Pointers up 1-0.
After a quiet second period, the Pointers remained in the lead 1-0 before scoring back-to-back goals at 3:23 and 4:41 in the third.
Logan Harper (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) and Lemirnade both scored unassisted. Midway through the period, Lemirande's power play goal closed the door as she scored her 13th goal of the year at 10:25.Â

Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) picked up the shutout win stopping all 21 shots faced.
UWSP resumes WIAC play on Friday, Jan. 27 as they host UW-Eau Claire. The Pointers and Blugolds are set to face off at 7 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
