RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team fell to No. 2 UW-River Falls as they dropped the second game of the weekend series 7-1 this Saturday at W.H. Hunt Arena.
The Pointers (9-7-2, 2-3-0 WIAC) were unable to keep up with the offensive prowess of the Falcons (18-1-0, 4-1-0 WIAC) who tallied at least one goal in each period, including four in the final frame. Pointers'
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) accounted for the lone goal for the Pointers.
Penalties riddled UWSP having committed 14 total penalties and 10 in the first two periods. In turn, UWSP had three opportunities in the opening period with the person advantage, but were unable to get one past Falcons' goal tender, Angie Hall. The Falcons scored two power play goals in the first and second periods, and after two periods, the Pointers found themselves trailing 3-0.
Three addition goals were added to the Falcons' total before
Lexi Englund (White Bear Lake, MN/White Bear Lake) broke up the shutout. Englund, unassisted, scored at the 15:19 minute mark, trailing 6-1. River Falls added a final goal at 15:42 and ending the game 7-1.
The Pointers look to get back on track as UWSP hosts Marian University on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The Pointers and Sabres are set to face off at 7 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
