Pointers Track Finishes First, Second in WIAC Triangular

STEVENS POINT, WIS. - The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams competed in the WIAC Triangular on Saturday against UW-Eau Claire and UW-Platteville.  UWSP won on the men's side with a total event score of 136.50.  The women came in second with a total score of 101, just 27.5 points behind the Blugolds. 

Results

Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.88 seconds.  Williams later went on to finish in first in the triple jump with 14.00 meters. 

Darin Ward (Fond du Lac, WI/St. Mary's Springs) took the title in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46 seconds. 

Calden Wojt (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) earned a first place finish in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 22.55.  Fellow Pointer Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton) followed with a second place finish with a time of 22.79. 

Alex Richardson (Hales Corner, WI/Whitnall) and Lukas Johnston went first and second in the 3,000-meter run.  The duo finished with 8:56.92 and 9:03.74.

A trio of Pointers, Mackenzie James (Wauwatosa, Wis./East), Jermey Lee, and Se'Kon Stephens (Milwaukee, WI/Menomonee Falls) dominated the long jump.  The trio jumped distances just under seven meters. 

Takuto Kobayashi (Franklin, WI/Franklin) contributed to the 4x400-meter relay team with Michael Evans (Reedsville, WI/Valders), Matt Sosinsky (Princeton, WI/Princeton), and Michael Pomaville (Dousman, WI/Mukwonago) earned a first place.  The team was .24 seconds faster than the team from UW-Eau Claire. 

Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) and Brent Rierson went first and fourth in the weight throw.  The pair finished with throws of 17.55 and 16.01 meters.  However in the shot put, Rierson and Kyle Nowak (Stratford, WI/Stratford) went second and third with distances of 16.15 and 14.25 meters. 

Christian Ferguson (Milwaukee, Wis./SCTE) was the sole Pointer in the high jump.  Ferguson earned a second-place finish, clearing at 2.00 meters.  The second place finish contributed five points to the score. 

In the pole vault, Anthony Blevins (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) placed fifth.  Blevins cleared the bar with a height of 4.01 meters. 

In the men's one mile run, Calvin VanRyzin (Appleton, WI/North) finished with a time 4:26.30, good for sixth.  VanRyzin improved upon his seed time by one second.

Michael Pomaville (Dousman, WI/Mukwonago) finished in sixth in the 400-meter dash.  Pomaville crossed the finish line with a time of 51.21. 

On the women's side, Abigail Clement earned a first place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.88.  Clement later placed second in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 26.30.  Hannah Mertens (West Bend, WI/Hartford Union) finished in fourth with 26.37.  

In the women's 800-meter run Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) finished in first place with a time of 2:32.26.  Freshman Talyn Solinsky (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) finished in third with a time of 2:37.91.

Two teams of Pointers went first and second in the 4x400-meter relay; Jacklyn Butler (Oshkosh, WI/West), Sarah Vils (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee), Hannah Mertens (West Bend, WI/Hartford Union) and Amber Bianco (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) finished first with a time of 4:05.17.  The team of Kathy Derks (Greenville, WI/Hortonville), Leah Trempe (Combined Locks, WI/Kimberly), Makani Peters (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Autumn Nelson (Superior, WI/Superior) finished with a second place with a time of 4:05.42. 

Anna Hogan (Omro, WI/Omro) and Tatum Houlihan (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) went first and second in the triple jump.  The pair jumped distances of 10.87 and 10.44 meters. 

Jordan Tyjeski (Beaver Dam, WI/Beaver Dam) won the weight throw with a distance of 14.41 meters.  Karen Wethal (Evansville, WI/Evansville) finished in third place in both the women's shot put and weight throw.   Wethal threw distances of 13.00 and 13.90 meters, respectively. 

In the pole vault, Angela Breuning placed second clearing a height of 3.41 meters.  Breuning was .15 meters shy of first place.    

In the 60-meter hurdles, Sylviann Momont (Auburndale, Wis./Auburndale) finished in third place with a time of 9.46.  Momont also went on to place second in the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters.   

In the 400-meter dash, Kathy Derks (Greenville, WI/Hortonville) finished in fourth place with a time of 1:00.80.  Amber Bianco (Rosholt, Wis./Rosholt) finished with a time of 1:03.17, finishing in sixth place.  Derks also was part of a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. 

In the one-mile run, Bailey Wolf (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) and Emily Schlebecker (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) finished in sixth and seventh place respectively.  The pair finished with times of 5:27.63 and 5:30.85. 

Bailey Boudreau (Wausau, WI/East) came in sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:31.46. 

Shannon Callahan (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) and Jamie Watry (Bonduel, WI/Bonduel) tied for sixth place in the high jump.  The pair jumped with a distance of 1.45 meters. 

The Pointers go on the road for the first time this season as they head to Whitewater Wis. for two separate meets on January 27 and 28.  The men compete on the 27th and women on the 28th.  Both meets set to begin a 1:00 p.m.
