STEVENS POINT, Wis. - Thanks to two goals in the second period, the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over St. Norbert College on Friday at Ice Hawks Arena.
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia)Â were credited with a goal each in the second period to help the Pointers (8-4-2) defeat the Green Knights (3-10-1).Â
After a scoreless first period,
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater)Â scored her seventh goal of the season at 6:30 in the second period. Seconds before the end of the period and the Pointers on the power play,
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia), assisted by
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) lit the lamp to give UWSP a 2-0 lead. The Pointers have now scored a power play goal in five straight games.
Marit Larson (Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul), who started her second consecutive game, saw 13 shots in the period, but denied the Green Knights of a goal.
Green Knight Selena Stromer scored in the third period at 18:55 to cut the lead in half, but time ran out for the Green Knights for any hope of a comeback.Â
Pointers' Larson earned her third win of the season stopping 19-of-20 shots she faced this evening.Â
Game two of the two-game series with St. Norbert resumes tomorrow at 5 p.m. at the Resch Olympic Pavilion in the Cornerstone Community Center.Â
