MENOMONIE, Wis. – Senior
Autumn Hennes (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the first half as the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (10-4, 2-1) were in control for a majority of an 80-57 road win at UW-Stout (5-9, 1-2) on Wednesday.
Fellow senior
Lauren Anklam (Ringle, WI/D.C. Everest) poured in 14 points and junior
Mickey Roland (New London, WI/New London) added 12. Hennes led all players with nine boards and Anklam tied a season-high with six steals.
Anklam and Hennes scored eight of the first 10 points as UWSP opened up a 10-5 lead less than four minutes in. Junior
Taylor Barrett (Monroe, WI/Monroe) had four points and senior
Taylor Douglas (Brodhead, WI/Brodhead) nailed a three to end the first quarter with the Pointers in front 22-15.
Mickey Roland (New London, WI/New London) hit a three to open the second quarter as the Pointers' lead hit double digits for the first time. Sophomore
Katy Heine (Jefferson, WI/Jefferson) added four points through the middle of the period and the Pointers led by 13 at the half.
UWSP got five of its first six points of the third quarter from
Mickey Roland (New London, WI/New London). Later in the period, Barrett scored four points and the lead remained 13 heading to the fourth.
Senior
Sarah Gamillo (Colby, WI/Colby) scored seven of the first nine UWSP points in the fourth and free throws by
Lexi Roland (New London, WI/New London) pushed the lead past 20. The Pointers' defense clamped down and did not allow a single Blue Devils' point over the final 2:47 of the game for the comfortable win.
The Pointers return home for a pair of games beginning on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. with High School Day versus UW-River Falls. UWSP will also host UW-Platteville next Wednesday (Jan. 18) at 7:00 p.m.
