Men's Hockey Skates to 1-1 Tie with Northland

STEVENS POINT, Wis.- With 1:03 remaining in regulation, Northland's Michael Berens scored to force overtime and a 1-1 with the second-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team Wednesday night at K.B. Willett Arena.

Berens scored with the goalie pulled off assists by Timothy Perks and Kalib Ford to even the game with UWSP (11-2-3).

In the first period, senior forward Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) got UWSP on the scoreboard, tucking a shot over the glove of Northland goalie AJ Smith off an assist by Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, MO), to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead 6:24 into the game.

Northland outshot UWSP 4-1 in the extra frame. Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas) had a team high four shots on goal for UWSP.


Northland (5-8-3) outshot UWSP, 27-25. Junior goaltender Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI) made 26 saves for UWSP, while Smith made 24 for Northland.

The Pointers will return to action Friday evening taking on Saint Mary's for the annual Ice Hawks youth hockey night.  All youth hockey players who wear their jersey will receive free admission and will have the opportunity to win a free hockey camp from Chris Brooks Elite Hockey Camps.

Following the matchup with Saint Mary's, the Pointers will take on Augsburg for the teams annual blackout and TV giveaway sponsored by Scaffidi Motors. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
