Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Soccer Edged by Late Tally in Madison

The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (0-4) suffered a narrow defeat in a 1-0 setback at Edgewood (2-1) in Madison on Wednesday.  The host Eagles scored the lone goal of the match in the 86th minute to prevail over the Pointers, 1-0.

In her first action of the season, sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Peplinski (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) made four saves as the defense in front of her allowed a season-low 13 shots against.

Junior Kara Herr (Schafer, MN/Chicago Lakes) had the first scoring opportunity for UWSP.  Her shot in the 16th minute was saved by the Edgewood keeper.  Then in the 39th minute, freshman Kassidy Spees (Nekoosa, WI) met the same result and the teams went into the break in a scoreless affair.

The Pointers came out firing in the second half.  A corner kick and shots by sophomore Olivia Bohnert (Oshkosh, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran) and freshman Reilly Louko (Oakfield, WI/North Fond du Lac) were turned aside.

After the Eagles' goal, the Pointers kept at it.  Freshman Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, MN/Red Wing) and sophomore Dani Ganser (Wauwatosa, WI/Wauwatosa West) each fired shots on goal, forcing the Edgewood keeper to work for the victory.

UWSP was led by Hardyman and Ganser who each reached a pair of shots on goal.  Spees had a team-high three shots, one on frame.

The Pointers head to Illinois for a pair of weekend matches.  UWSP will face Concordia University Chicago at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday before visiting Illinois Institute of Technology at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
