ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Sophomore
Elise Thuot (Hatley, WI/D.C. Everest) netted the first goal of the season for the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (0-3-0), but the Pointers fell in the first road match of the year, 3-1, at Augustana (2-0-0) on Sunday.

Olivia Mecham (Waunakee, WI/Waunakee) was once again busy in net. She made her first of 12 saves just 1:17 into the match. But Mecham's luck ran out in the 8th minute when the host Vikings found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Nine minutes later, the home side doubled its lead. Mecham made three more saves before the break to hold the deficit at 2-0.
In the 52nd minute of play, the Pointers netted the first goal of the young season. Thuot, who entered as a sub in the 23rd minute, netted the first goal on her second shot of the match. It was Thuot's second career tally and pulled UWSP within a goal.
Augustana broke through again in the 69th minute and closed out the 3-1 win.
Thuot led the Pointers with three shots, all of which were on net. Freshmen
Amanda Maestas (Plano, TX/Plano Senior High) and
Chloe Pallex (Pulaski, WI/Pulaski) each added a shot on goal for UWSP.
The Pointers continue a five-match road trip with a 5:00 p.m. kick on Wednesday in Madison against Edgewood.
