ROCK ISLAND, Ill.-The UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team took fifth place and the women's team took seventh at the Meet of Champions on Saturday at Augustana College.
Men's Results
In the 110 meter hurdles, Darin Ward (Fond du Lac, WI/St. Mary's Springs) took home a second place finish with a time of 14.55 seconds, securing himself a spot in the National Meet. Ward also qualified for Nationals in the long jump with a fifth place finish, jumping 7.14 meters.
In the long jump, the Pointers had four top ten finishes, led by Freshmen Mac James, who recorded a PR with a 7.23 meter jump to finish in third and qualify for Nationals as well. Also finishing in the top ten was Jordan Richards (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) (sixth 7.11m) and Alec Dix (WIld Rose, WI/Wild Rose) (seventh 6.97m)
In the triple jump, Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) and Josh Jones (Downers Grove, IL/South) both finished in the top-ten. Williams finished in third with a 14.20 meter leap, and Jones finished in seventh jumping 13.48 meters.
Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) took home second in the hammer throw, finishing with a 56.03 meter toss, and Tylar Kohnke (North Fond du Lac, WI/Horace Mann) finished in sixth in the javelin throw, throwing 52.49 meters.Â
Junior Albert Unruh (Marshall, WI/Marshall) took home second place in the decathlon finishing with a lifetime best 6102 points.
Alex Egbert (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) finished seventh in the 800 meter run posting a time of 1.57.09
Women's Results
First place finishes by Holly Winberg (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake) in the 3000 meter steeplechase (11:26.36) and Jacklyn Butler (Oshkosh, WI/West) in the 400 meter hurdles (1.03.16) and the 4x400 meter relay team of Butler, Kathy Derks (Greenville, WI/Hortonville), Leadh Trempe and Autumn Nelson (Superior, WI/Superior) (3.56.59) helped pace the Pointers to a seventh place finish.
UWSP also had top-five finishes from Derks and Trempe in the 400 meter dash. Derks took home third with a time of 58.41, and Trempe in fourth at 58.58
In the field, Isabela Weekly took home second place in the heptathlon finishing with 3914 points, and Shannon Burke (Sussex, WI/Hamilton) took third, clearing 3.50 meters. Megan School (Wittenberg, WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood) also took home fourth place in the long jump, with a 5.33 meter leap
The Pointers also earned team points in top-ten finishes byÂ
Emily Schlebecker (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) in the 1500 meter run (4:55.11, seventh), Abigail clement in the 100 meter dash (12.81 eighth), and Ana Hogan in triple jump (10.85 meters, seventh)
Karen Wethal (Evansville, WI/Evansville) rounded out the scoring for UWSP, finishing in seventh in the discus throw (44.10 meters) and eighth in the shot put (12.02m)
The Pointers will travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays on April 29 and 30.
