MENOMONIE, Wis.—The UW-Stevens Point Baseball team split a doubleheader with UW-Stout on Sunday Afternoon, dropping the first game 10-5, before taking the second game of the afternoon 10-5.
UW-Stout 10, UW-Stevens Point 5
UW-Stout (10-10) posted a five running sixth inning to defeat UW-Stevens Point (9-13) in the first game of the afternoon.
Josh Halling led the Blue Devils, going 2-5 with three RBI, with a two RBI double in the the third inning, as well as a RBI single in the sixth inning that opened the game for UW-Stout.
The Pointers scored runs off RBI single Ryan Stanicek (Loves Park, IL/Boylan Catholic) in the third inning, and two RBI hits by Turner Doornink (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville) in the fourth and Ray Greco (Downers Grove, IL/North) in the ninth.
Hayden Bowe pitched a complete game for UW-Stout picking up the win for UW-Stout. Heinrich Walder (Rosholt, WI/Rosholt) took the Loss for UWSP.
UW-Stevens Point 10, UW-Stout 5
UW-Stevens Point scored six runs in the seventh inning to break the game open to give the Pointers a 9-2 lead.
In game two, Greco went 3-5 with 3 RBI, including an RBI double in the fourth inning that gave the Pointers a 3-2 lead, not looking back.
Greco, Doornink, Cody Hanke (Marathon, WI/Marathon) and Kyle Mrozkinski all finished with multi hit games, and combined seven RBI to lead the Pointers to the victory facing a weekend split with UW-Stout.
Luke Thomka (Muskego, WI/Muskego) pitched 7.1 innings for the Pointers earning the win, with Alex Thompson (Tomah, WI/Tomah) picking up his first save of the season. Zach Carlson pitched seven innings in the loss for UW-Stout.
The Pointers will return home to take on Marian on Wednesday, April 20, taking on Marian in a double header. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
