Game 2 BoxIn game one, the Pointers won in thrilling fashion, with freshman
Morgan Johnson (Combined Locks, WI/Kaukauna) coming up clutch for the game winner in the top of the seventh.
A well-pitched game saw just nine hits between the two teams with Pointers'
Maddie Durie (Appleton, WI/East) going the distance. Durie surrendered just three hits, while giving up two runs with two walks and two strikeouts for the win. Beavers' Jenna Falline scattered six hits, giving up three runs, two earned and struck out five.
The first three innings were scoreless against Buena Vista with the Pointers seeing only one hit from
Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) in the first innings, respectively.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Paige Allen (South Elgin, IL/South Elgin) led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error Beavers' Katie Yoder. Pointers'Â clear up hitter,
Katie Uhlenbrauck (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville) then burned the right fielder for the RBI double. Buena Vista responded in the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back doubles from Marissa Schmidt and Keely Bycroft, tying the game 1-1.
Buena Vista took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after a single and fielder's choice for the go-ahead.
The Pointers were not finished yet as pinch hitter,
Charlotte Pegram (Fond du Lac, WI/Oakfield), led off the top of the seventh with a single and advanced two bases to third base after a
Kylie Johnson (Iola, WI/Iola-Scandinavia) sacrifice bunt and Beaver throwing error. After ground out to the pitcher and strike out, the Pointers were down to their last out. Johnson fell behind the count early, but fought off the 1-2 pitch with a drive to right center scoring Pegram and K. Johnson to take a 3-2 lead.
In their last at-bats, Durie sat the Beavers down in order for the 3-2 win.
Allen led the Pointers going three-for-four at the plate.
In game two,
Bailie Sheahan (Salem, WI/Wilmot Union) scored the lone run in the top of the first with a solo shot, her first of the season.
The Beavers plated five runs out of the gate in the bottom of the first on five hits and one Pointers error.
The Pointers couldn't seem to get the bats going as Beavers' Moriah Guyett kept them guessing. Guyed scattered just three hits in five innings of work and struck out seven.
Buena Vista tacked on two runs in the second inning and fourth inning to defeat the Pointers 9-1 by run rule.
Sheahan, Allen and
Averi Kanyuh (Rapid River, WI/Rapid River) collected a hit each.
