EAU CLAIRE- Sophomore goaltender
Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI) made 28 saves to lead the fourth ranked UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena.
Box Score Milosek made eight saves in the third period alone for UWSP (20-5-2), including stopping two chances by UW-Eau Claire (15-6-6) while playing with an extra attacker.
Just 5:40 into the first period,
Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, MO) opened the scoring for the Pointers for the second night in a row. Barber scored on a wrist shot off assists from
Stephan Beauvais (Shelby Township, MI) and
Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI) to take an early 1-0 lead.
Just 1:24 later, Barber returned the favor, collecting his second point of the night, setting up
Jono Davis (La Verne, CA) for his sixteenth goal of the season, extending the UWSP lead.
Adam Knochemus scored 2:10 into the second period on the power play to cut into the UWSP lead.
The UWSP defensive unit went on to hold the Blugolds scoreless for the final 39:50 of the game.
UWSP outshot the Blugolds 34-29. Milosek's performance helped him earn his 15th win of the season, while Tyler Green made 32 saves for UWEC.
The Pointers return to action next Saturday, Mar. 5 and take on UW-River Falls for the WIAC Commissioners Cup championship game, a rematch of the 2015 title game won by the Falcons.
