No. 19 women's basketball leads wire-to-wire in win over Pioneers

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 19 UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team led from start to finish in a 67-54 win over UW-Platteville on Wednesday evening at Berg Gym.

UW-Stevens Point (18-6, 9-4 WIAC) scored the game's first eight points and never looked back to sweep the season series with UW-Platteville (5-19, 2-11 WIAC). The Pointers got points from 10 different players in the game and turned a 50-33 rebounding margin into a 28-4 advantage in second-chance points.

Sarah Gamillo (Colby, WI/Colby) and Lauren Anklam (Ringle, WI/D.C. Everest) each scored 10 points, while Allie Miceli (Marseilles, IL/Ottawa Township) had nine points and 12 rebounds for the Pointers. UW-Stevens Point also got contributions from its bench, which outscored UW-Platteville's 32-18.

The Pointers held the Pioneers scoreless for the first 3:55 on their way to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter. UW-Platteville got within 16-11 late in the first quarter before UW-Stevens Point re-established a double-digit lead with a 7-0 run.

UW-Stevens Point led by eight midway through the second quarter but closed the half on a 14-0 run to take a 41-19 lead at the break. The Pointers held the Pioneers scoreless for the final 5:28 of the second quarter.

The Pointers led by double figures the rest of the way, as the closest the Pioneers got was 11 in the final 2:11 of the game. UW-Stevens Point shot just 32.8 percent from the field in the game, compared to 43.9 percent for UW-Platteville but used a commanding edge on the glass to overpower the visitors.

Elisa Bilderback scored a game-high 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting for UW-Platteville, while Morgan Horstman had 12 points and a team-high six rebounds. The Pioneers shot an even 50.0 percent in the second half after shooting 36.0 percent in the first 10 minutes but made just one three-pointer in the game.

The Pointers close out their regular-season schedule by hosting UW-La Crosse on Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. at Berg Gym.
