STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sophomore goaltender
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) made 20 saves to record her first shutout of the season as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-3-1) knocked off No. 10 Augsburg (8-3-0) by a 1-0 final at Ice Hawks Arena on Friday night.
Fellow sophomore
Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) notched her sixth goal of the season late in the first period after a scramble in front of the Auggies net to put UWSP ahead 1-0.
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) and
Allison Karrmann (Cannon Falls, MN/Emerson Prep) picked up assists.
The Pointers defense helped Conley the rest of the game to slow the Auggies offense. Conley made nine of her 20 saves in the third period to preserve the shutout.
Augsburg outshot the Pointers in the game, 20-19. Auggies goaltender Rebecca Sonnek stopped 18 UWSP shots. Biagini had two shots in each period for UWSP.
The Pointers continue the home stand on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. with a non-conference matchup with Saint Mary's at Ice Hawks Arena.
