Biagini's Two Goals Help Move Pointers to a 3-3 Tie

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater)'s two goal performance helped move the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team to a 3-3 tie against Concordia College (Minn.) this Saturday afternoon at Moorhead Sports Center.

The Pointers (1-2-1) jumped out to a two goal lead, but Cobbers (1-0-1) responded with three unanswered goals of their own before Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) tied the game in the third period.

Despite being short-handed at 8:28 of the first period, the Pointers got on the scoreboard as Biagini single handedly beat Andrea Klug for the score. The Pointers defense played strong holding the Cobbers to just three shots on goal with Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) stopping all three.

This time, on the power play, Biagini, assisted by Alex Grubbs (Minong, WI/Spooner) and Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia), found the back of the net half way through the second period at 10:57. UWSP jumped out to an early lead, but found themselves behind quickly within the same period.

The offensive surge began for Concordia after Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) committed tripped up the Cobbers. On the power play, Jess Nelson scored at 12:33 of the second period. Seven minutes later, Concordia scored back-to-back goals at the 19:05 and 19:59 to take the lead.

Three minutes into the third period, Lemirande, assisted by Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) and Kratch, tied the game, 3-3.  UWSP challenged Cobber's Klug 11 other times, but the goaltender denied the remaining shots.

The Pointers continue to score during the person advantage going 2-for-4 in power play opportunities, while the Cobbers went 1-for-10 in the game.

UW-Stevens Point has a quick turnaround as they head back to Minnesota for a weekday game against Gustavus Adolphus on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. Following Tuesday's contest, the Pointers have their home opener Friday, Nov. 11 at Ice Hawks Arena.
