Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pointers Hit Nine Threes to Down Carthage

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 21 UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (5-1) posted a season-best 24 points in the third quarter to separate from visiting Carthage (3-3) and ran away with a 66-50 win on Wednesday night.

Senior Lauren Anklam (Ringle, WI/D.C. Everest) led the Pointers with 15 points as four UWSP players scored in double figures.  Senior Taylor Douglas (Brodhead, WI/Brodhead) and junior Taylor Barrett (Monroe, WI/Monroe) recorded eight rebounds apiece.

Barrett scored four of the Pointers' first six points as the teams swapped leads early on.  Anklam and Douglas combined for an 8-0 UWSP run to take the lead for good midway through the first quarter.  Back-to-back threes by Anklam pushed the lead to eight, the margin at the end of the first.

The Pointers defense held Carthage scoreless to begin the second quarter as the visiting Lady Reds went without a score for more than six minutes spanning the two periods.  Lexi Roland (New London, WI/New London) scored the first four points of the second to extend the advantage to 12 before the first CC points in the second.   Sophomore Payton Mix (New London, WI/New London) hit a jumper late as UWSP went to the break ahead by seven.

Anklam buried a three in the opening seconds of the third quarter to begin a 7-0 run.  Mickey Roland (New London, WI/New London) and Douglas hit three-straight from beyond the arc to push the lead to 21 less than halfway through the third.  Carly Cerrato (De Pere, WI/De Pere) hit her first career three with a minute remaining in the stanza to end a three-and-a-half-minute drought, but UWSP still held 17-point edge heading to the fourth.

Anklam and Barrett each scored four in the fourth and Mickey Roland (New London, WI/New London) hit UWSP's ninth three-pointer of the night as the lead stayed near 20 the entirety of the final quarter.

The Pointers return to action on Tuesday, December 13 at home versus North Central.  Tipoff at Berg Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
