STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss against No. 2 UW-River Falls this Friday, Nov. 11 evening in their home opener at Ice Hawks Arena.
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) cut the lead in half, 2-1 in the third period, but the Pointers (2-3-1, 0-1-0) were unable to pull off the comeback. Carly Moran provided the Falcons (4-0-0, 1-0-0) with all of the offense scoring in the first and third periods.
Late in the first period, the Falcons took advantage of a Pointers' checking penalty, scoring one minute into the power play at 14:46 to provide a 1-0 lead. Both the Pointers and Falcons had five shots on goal in the first period, but the Pointers were unable to get one past Falcon goal tender, Angie Hall.
Neither team scored in the second period and Pointers
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) kept the Pointers within striking distance stopping all 13 shots.
In the third period Moran increased the Falcons' lead to two goals, scoring right as the third period begun at 0:27. Half way through the period, Biagini netted her fifth goal of the season to cut the Falcon lead in half at the 10:20 minute mark.
An untimely Pointer penalty occurred in the last two minutes of the game while trying for the person advantage in efforts to tie the game, so to play to even strength the Pointers pulled Conley. At even strength, UWSP was unable to get a shot off, falling 2-1.
The Pointers don't compete again until Nov. 19 as they travel to UW-Superior for a 2 p.m. face off.
