Box Score STEVENS POINT, Wis.-Sophomore forward
Tanner Karty (Oklahoma City, OK) scored a pair of goals to help lead the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team to an 6-3 victory over Concordia-Moorhead on Friday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.
At the 11:30 mark of the third period, Karty netted his second goal of the evening to UWSP (4-0-1) a 6-2 lead over Concordia-Moorhead (3-2-0).
In the first period,
Omar Mullan (Dearborn, MI) got the Pointers on the scoreboard, netting his first goal in a UWSP uniform just 1:50 into the opening period off an assists by
Nathan Harris (Fowlerville, MI) and
Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, MO).Concorida's Dalton Mills evened the game at one just 2:57 later.
Senior forward
Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) took back the lead for UWSP midway through the first period, before Karty netted his first goal of the game four minutes later, giving the Pointers a 3-1 advantage heading into the middle period.
Barber scored the lone goal of the second period, tallying his fifth goal of the season, putting UWSP up 4-1.
In the third period,
Ryan Bittner (Crookston, MN) scored his first collegiate goal, 6:47 into the final period, increasing the lead to four.
With 10:40 remaining in the final period, Jordan Christianson scored for the Cobbers to make it a 5-2 game before Karty's insurance goal 2:10 later.
Zach Doerring netted the Cobbers final goal of night on the power play at the 12:19 mark cutting the lead to 6-3.
UWSP outshot Concordia-Moorhead 35 to 18. Junior goaltender
Max Milosek (Lapeer, MI) earned his second victory of the season, making 15 saves in 59:22 of work. Jacob Stephan made 29 saves for Concordia-Moorhead.
The Pointers will return to action on Nov.12, taking on Saint John's at K.B. Willett Arena for a 7:00 p.m. start. Fans are also encouraged to take part in the team's annual food drive for The Cupboard. Fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items to support The Cupboard, which supports current UWSP students who need emergency or supplemental food. Fans can also sign up to win a Pointers Package courtesy of Thrivent and youth hockey players wearing their team's jersey will be admitted free of charge to Saturday's game.
