EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-8-0, 0-2-0) allowed two early goals and were unable to recover from the early deficit in a 2-0 road loss at UW-Eau Claire (5-5-1, 2-0-0) on Wednesday.
The home standing Blugolds found the back of the net on their second shot of the match, coming in the third minute. UWSP's
Elise Thuot (Hatley, WI/D.C. Everest) fired on frame in the sixth minute, but the UWEC keeper made the save.
The Blugolds racked up successive corner kicks and ultimately doubled the Pointers' deficit in the 11th minute. Later in the first half,
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, MN/Red Wing) forced the home keeper to make another save.
UWSP's defense held the fort in the second half, giving the Pointers a chance to pull closer with a tally. But UWEC's goalkeeper made three second half saves to close out the win.
Sophomore
Olivia Mecham (Waunakee, WI/Waunakee) got the call in net for the Pointers. She played all 90 minutes and made eight saves.
The Pointers return to Point Soccer Bowl for a WIAC matchup against UW-Stout on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. UWSP will host a post-game youth clinic (
