STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point soccer team (4-11-0, 0-4-0) gave up a pair of first-half goals and fell to visiting UW-Platteville (6-8-0, 1-3-0) by a 2-0 score in WIAC action on Saturday afternoon.
An inadvertent hand ball in the box in the third minute of play gave the Pioneers a penalty kick early. UWP converted the PK and took the early 1-0 lead.
Later in the half, the Pioneers turned a deep turnover into a second goal in the 26th minute. UWP's Yamilex Jaramillo sent a shot from 20 yards that took a deflection into the net.
The Pointers got the offensive pressure going in the second half. UWSP fired 11 shots in the second period, but came away empty handed.
Sophomore
Elise Thuot (Hatley, WI/D.C. Everest) led the Pointers with five shots in the match. Freshman
Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, MN/Red Wing) added three shots with
Reilly Louko (Oakfield, WI/North Fond du Lac) and
Kortnee Hass (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) contributing a pair of shots each.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Sarah Peplinski (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) made three saves in the second half to keep the Pointers in the match.
UWSP will play its final home match of the season on Saturday, October 22 with a 1:00 match versus UW-River Falls.
