Soccer Suffers Setback in Conference Opener

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point soccer team (4-7-0, 0-1-0) fell behind early and were not able to recover in a 5-0 loss to UW-La Crosse (7-2-0, 1-0-0) in the WIAC opener at Point Soccer Bowl on Saturday.

The visiting Eagles found the back of the net 14 minutes into the match to put the Pointers down early.  UWL's offensive pressure resulted in a second goal in the 24th minute as UWSP went into break trailing by a pair.

UWL netted goals in the 51st, 77th and again in the 87th minute to complete the 5-0 win.  The Eagles dominated the shot column, outshooting the Pointers 33-9 in the match.

UWSP sophomore Elise Thuot (Hatley, WI/D.C. Everest) and freshman Maddy Hardyman (Red Wing, MN/Red Wing) led the Pointers with two shots apiece.  Sophomores Olivia Bohnert (Oshkosh, WI/Fox Valley Lutheran) and Sydney Swatloski (Green Bay, WI/Green Bay East) along with freshman Chloe Pallex (Pulaski, WI/Pulaski) each added a shot of frame for UWSP.

The Pointers head to Eau Claire on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. conference tilt with the Blugolds.  UWSP returns home next Saturday versus UW-Stout.  The Pointers and Blue Devils kick at 4:00 p.m. and UWSP will hold a post-game youth clinic with proceeds benefitting the Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research.  Registration for the clinic is located on the Soccer Camps page.
