STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Thanks to a four-goal second period, the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team won its second game in as many days, defeating Marian University 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena.
Box Score Marian (3-10-0) led 1-0 after one period but UW-Stevens Point (8-6-2) used a four-goal flurry in the second period to go ahead 4-1 and held on the rest of the way.
Marian's Emily Everson put the Sabres on the scoreboard first at the 2:19 minute mark of the first period. The rest of the period remained quiet offensively with the Sabres leading 1-0.
The Pointers scored four times in 3:55 in the second, including two goals by
Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial).
Mackenzie Kratch (Waconia, MN/Waconia) and
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) also added goals in the period. Kratch's goal that put UWSP up 2-1 was her first collegiate goal.
Marian fought back with two goals in the third period, cutting the lead to just one goal, but
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) scored an empty-net goal at 19:17 to end any hopes of a comeback.
Allie Gloudemans (Little Chute, WI/Little Chute) earned her first career victory saving 22 of 25 shots in her first start of the season. The Pointers outshot the Sabres 40-28 on the afternoon.
UW-Stevens Point wraps up the two-game series with Marian on Sunday, Jan. 10 at Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac. Puck drop is set at 2:00 p.m.
