Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Conley records first shutout, Pointers blank Gusties

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Eight different skaters recorded a point and Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) recorded her first-career shutout as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team blanked Gustavus Adolphus College 4-0 on Friday evening at Ice Hawks Arena.

Box Score

Hailey Rock (Hammond, WI/Central), Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo), Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) and Meredith Ingbretson (Hayward, WI/Hayward) each scored for UW-Stevens Point (7-6-2). Conley made 26 saves to keep Gustavus (3-7-3) off the scoreboard in the Pointers first game since Dec. 13.

The win was UWSP's third shutout in 30 games against Gustavus.

Rock's fourth goal of the season at 7:48 of the first period was all Conley would need in the game. The freshman goaltender made 10 saves in the first, seven in the second and nine in the third in UW-Stevens Point's first shutout of the season.

The Pointers lead stood at 1-0 after two periods but UW-Stevens Point scored three times in the final period to pull away from the Gusties. Smith doubled UWSP's lead inside the first minute of the third period and Nejedlo and Ingbretson added goals less than three minutes apart in the second half of the period.

UW-Stevens Point matched its season low with just two penalties in the game and killed off both Gustavus power plays. The Gusties outshot the Pointers 26-21 on the night and held a 28-21 advantage in the faceoff circle.

Amanda DiNella made 13 saves and let in one goal in the first two periods for Gustavus before giving way to Paige Press, who gave up three goals on seven shots.

UW-Stevens Point continues a stretch of three games in as many days this weekend with a home game against Marian at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9 at Ice Hawks Arena.
