Reynard's three points help women's hockey win 10th one-goal game

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team got goals from three different skaters to record its 10th one-goal win by virtue of a 3-2 conference win over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday evening at Hobbs Ice Center.

After trailing 1-0, UW-Stevens Point (12-7-2, 4-3-2 WIAC) scored three consecutive goals late in the second period and early in the third to take a 3-1 lead. UW-Eau Claire (9-9-4, 2-5-2 WIAC) got one goal back in the final minute but the Pointers improved to 5-0-2 in their last seven games in Eau Claire.
 
Down 1-0 after a Danielle Lucker goal at 5:23 of the second, Rachel Reynard (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville) scored from Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) and Meredith Ingbretson (Hayward, WI/Hayward) at 12:56 to knot the score at 1-1. Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo) put the Pointers ahead less than three minutes later off an assist from Reynard, who matched her career high with three points.
 
Early in the third, Lemirande scored her fourth goal in the last five games, doubling UW-Stevens Point's lead on the power play at 4:31 from Reynard and Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac). The Pointers continued to lead 3-1 until Monica Sjodin scored for the Blugolds with 42 seconds left.
 
UW-Stevens Point held a commanding 37-24 lead in shots in the game, including a 19-3 margin in the scoreless first period. Paige Turner made 34 saves in a losing effort for the Blugolds, while Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) improved to 6-4-2 this season by making 22 stops for the Pointers.
 
Thirteen of UW-Stevens Point's 21 games this season have been decided by a single goal and the Pointers are 10-3-0 in those games.
 
The two teams are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena.
