Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's hockey knocks off No. 8/9 UW-River Falls on road

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Rachel Reynard (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville) and Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) scored and Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) made 30 saves as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team knocked off No. 8/9 UW-River Falls 2-1 to earn a split of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

Box Score

Lemirande broke a 1-1 tie with her seventh goal of the season at 12:09 of the second period and Conley made the lead stand the rest of the way for UW-Stevens Point (11-7-2, 3-3-2 WIAC). The Pointers earned a split of the four-game regular-season series with UW-River Falls (14-3-1, 6-2-0 WIAC) for the second consecutive season.

Lemirande's goal was the freshman's second in as many days against the Falcons and her seven goals make her the leading goalscorer among freshmen in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

Conley posted her third-career 30-save performance, stopping 10 shots in each period. The freshman helped the Pointers hold the Falcons to one goal or fewer for just the third time in 18 games this season.

Reynard opened the scoring at 4:51 of the first period with her third goal of the season off an assist from Lauren Smith (Antigo, WI/Antigo). Before the period was over, however, UW-River Falls responded through Chloe Kinsel on the power play at 8:05.

The Falcons outshot the Pointers 31-21 in the game but could not find a way past Conley for the final two-plus periods. Angie Hall made 19 saves in the loss for UW-River Falls.

UW-Stevens Point plays a single game next weekend, taking on UW-Eau Claire on the road on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
