Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) scored the only goal of the game with 2.1 seconds remaining in overtime to give the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team a 1-0 win over St. Norbert on Saturday afternoon at Cornerstone Community Ice Center.
Box Score Three seniors connected for the game-winning goal for UW-Stevens Point (10-6-2) as Lester was set up by
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) and
Shauna Bollinger (Menomonie, WI/Menomonie) for her team-best 10th goal of the season. The win snapped an eight-game winning streak by St. Norbert (10-5) and was the fourth consecutive victory for the Pointers.
Lester's goal came after UW-Stevens Point outshot St. Norbert 8-1 in overtime to give the Pointers a 33-26 edge in shots in the game.
Sydney Conley (South St. Paul, MN/South St. Paul) made 26 saves in her second consecutive shutout in net for UWSP.
The Pointers and Green Knights combined for 13 penalties in the game but neither team was able to convert on the power play. St. Norbert was 0-for-5 with the extra skater, while UW-Stevens Point was 0-for-4.
UW-Stevens Point returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a series at No. 8/10 UW-River Falls on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23.
