STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Goals from
Kayla Huber (Wausau, WI/D.C. Everest) and
Abbie Ullrich (Johnsburg, IL/Johnsburg) were not enough for the win as the UW-Stevens Point soccer team dropped a 3-2 match against Wartburg on Sunday afternoon at the Point Soccer Bowl.
Box ScoreWartburg improved to 5-2-0 on the season, while UW-Stevens Point dropped to 2-6-0.
The game looked to be an offensive shootout as the first two goals came within 15 seconds of each other from each team just four minutes into the game. Riley Miller found the back of the net first for Wartburg before Huber responded to tie the game up with a strike to the top right corner for her first collegiate goal.
Miller netted her second goal of the game at the 18:39 minute mark to give the Knights the lead again. Morgan Neuendorf extended the Knights' lead 3-1 two minutes later.
Before the first half came to a close, Ullrich closed the gap, finding the back of the net on a penalty shot after
Holly Krey (DeForest, WI/DeForest) was fouled in the box. The goal was Ullrich's first of the season.
Right away in the second half,
Lexi Ahrens (Appleton, WI/Appleton East) gave the Pointers an opportunity to tie the game, but shot just wide of the goal. The Pointers managed to get one other shot on goal but were unable capitalize.
