Pointers post runner-up finish at outdoor season opener

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Stevens Point men's track & field team opened the 2015 outdoor season on Friday with a second place finish at the Rex Foster Invitational, hosted by UW-Whitewater.

Results 

Alec Oestreich (Merrill, WI/Merrill) and Nick Melotte finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash, posting time of 51.99 and 52.36, respectively.

The trio of Dan Sullivan, Michael Evans (Reedsville, WI/Valders) and Calvin VanRyzin (Appleton, WI/North) cruised to the top three spots in the 1,500-meter run, with Sullivan finishing in 4:08.32.

Takuto Kobayashi (Franklin, WI/Franklin) and Cory Valiquette (Green Bay, WI/Green Bay SW) finished 2-3 in the 400-meter hurdles, with Kobayashi posting a time of 59.17.

The Pointers 4x100-meter relay team took home the top spot at the meet, finishing in 42.76.

Bryon Andrews took home the top spot in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters (6' 2.75").

Jordan Richards (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) finished as the runner-up in the long jump with a distance of 7.10 meters (23').

Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) finished as the runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.50 meters (172' 3").

The Pointers return to action on Saturday, April 11 at the UW-Platteville Invitational.
