ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's outdoor track & field team placed the top three in the 800-meter run to highlight a second-place finish at the Meet of Champions, hosted by Augustana College, on Saturday afternoon.
Results Dan Sullivan (Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn),
Calvin VanRyzin (Appleton, WI/North) and
Ryan Wierzba (Rosholt, WI/Rosholt) finished 1-2-3- in the 800-meter run for UW-Stevens Point, while
Michael Evans (Reedsville, WI/Valders) gave the Pointers four of the top-five finishers. Sullivan and VanRyzin each crossed the line in 1:53.31.
UW-Stevens Point finished with a total of 141.50 points, good for second behind host Augustana's total of 222.50. Second-ranked UW-Whitewater was third with 123.0 points.
Jerry Williams (Watertown, WI/Watertown) won the long jump with a personal-record distance of 7.31 meters (23' 11.75").
A week after winning the event at the Platteville Invitational,
Benjamin Jurenec (Mequon, WI/Homestead) was the runner-up in the steeplechase with a time of 9:40.35.
Dane Tyler (Janesville, WI/Parker) cracked the four-minute mark in the 1,500-meter run for the first time, placing second in a personal-record time of 3:57.38.
Logan Heil (Weston, WI/DC Everest) claimed second place in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.54 meters (182' 3"), a personal best for the sophomore.
UW-Stevens Point's relays will run at the Drake Relays in Des Moines from Thursday, April 23 through Saturday, April 25. The rest of the team will compete at the St. Norbert Invite on Saturday, April 25.
