AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Ben Miller (Union Grove, WI/Union Grove) fanned 10 over seven shutouts innings to pitch the No. 13 UW-Stevens Point baseball team to a 4-0 win over Calvin on Wednesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Field #2.

Box Score

In his first collegiate start, Miller gave up just three hits and one walk against the 10 strikeouts for UW-Stevens Point (5-2) to pick up his second win of the season. Miller faced trouble in the first inning with runners on first and third and nobody out but escaped the jam and allowed just two baserunners the rest of the way.

The Pointers gave Miller the only run he would need in the top of the first inning when Riley Spetz (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol) doubled down the left-field line and scored on a single by Tyler Thomka (Muskego, WI/Muskego). Later in the inning, UWSP added a second run when Jimmy Coady (La Crosse, WI/Aquinas) doubled in Kyle McHugh (Polonia, WI/Rosholt).

Cody Hanke (Marathon, WI/Marathon) hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot to center, in the third to make it 3-0 and UW-Stevens Point added a run in the ninth on a Coady RBI single. UWSP registered 14 hits in the game off five Calvin (3-5) pitchers, led by Spetz's three hits.

McHugh, Coady and Hanke each tallied two hits in the win.

Ryan Williams (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) pitched a scoreless eighth, striking out two, before Cole Erickson (Deerfield, WI/Deerfield) held the Knights off the board in the ninth to complete the shutout.
