EAU CLAIRE, Wis. –
Janna Beilke-Skoug (Madison, WI/East) posted her third shutout of the season and four players scored as the No. 8 UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team blanked UW-Eau Claire 4-0 on Friday evening at Hobbs Ice Center.
Box Score Beilke-Skoug made 34 saves in the 11th shutout of her career for UW-Stevens Point (14-6-2, 5-3-2 WIAC). The game was the final regular-season meeting with UW-Eau Claire (5-17-1, 1-8-1 WIAC) this season and the Pointers went 3-0-1 against the Blugolds.
Hannah Smith (Spokane, WA/East Valley) and
Megan Menotti (Vernon Hills, IL/Chicago Mission) each tallied a goal and an assist in the win, while
Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) registered a pair of assists. UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Eau Claire 52-34 and the 52 shots were one shy of the team's season-high 53 at UW-Superior on Nov. 22, 2014.
Shauna Bollinger (Menomonie, WI/Menomonie) opened the scoring at 14:26 of the first period with her sixth goal of the season. Menotti and Nejedlo set up Bollinger's goal, which turned out to be the eventual game-winner.
Early in the second period, the Pointers made it 2-0 when Menotti scored on the power play at 4:02. The goal was Menotti's eighth point in the last eight games and was assisted by
Meredith Ingbretson (Hayward, WI/Hayward) and Smith.
UW-Stevens Point's top-three scorers combined to give UW-Stevens Point a 3-0 lead late in the second period.
Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) and Nejedlo set up
Ali Biagini (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) for the freshman's 12th goal of the season at 17:47.
Smith then got her goal on the power play 1:20 into the final period to complete the scoring.
Ellie Punnett (Hailey, ID/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) tallied her fifth assist of the season on UWSP's fourth goal, giving eight Pointers at least one point on the night.
Paige Turner made 48 saves in the loss for UW-Eau Claire. The Pointers were 2-for-3 on the power play and held the Blugolds scoreless on three attempts.
UW-Stevens Point returns home to take on No. 5 Adrian on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2:30 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena, where the Pointers are 8-1-1 this season.
