Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's hockey wins another one-goal game in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team scored three consecutive goals in a five-goal second period to defeat UW-Eau Claire 3-2 on the road in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Hobbs Ice Arena.

Box Score

Logan Harper (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township), Kat Nejedlo (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) and Cara Lemirande (Janesville, WI/Craig) each scored for UW-Stevens Point (6-4-2, 2-2-2 WIAC) in a span of less than seven minutes in the second period and that was all the Pointers would need. The win over UW-Eau Claire (3-5-3, 1-3-2 WIAC) means all six UWSP wins this season have been by a single goal.

After Lauren Norgren opened the scoring for the Blugolds at 6:10 of the second period, Harper scored the second goal of her freshman season at 10:40 to tie matters at 1-1. Just 44 seconds later, Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) found fellow senior Nejedlo for her first goal of the season to put UWSP up 2-1.

At 17:13 of the second, Lemirande got her second collegiate goal from Hailey Rock (Hammond, WI/Central) and Maddie Scholossmacher to double the UW-Stevens Point lead with what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Courtney Baugher's goal with 28 seconds left in the second brought the Blugolds within a goal at 3-2 but Lisa Fowle (Wausau, WI/Wausau West) turned aside all 10 shots she faced in the third period to preserve the one-goal win. Fowle made 26 saves in her fourth win of the season.

UW-Stevens Point outshot UW-Eau Claire 33-28 in the win. UWEC's Kim VanBrunt stopped 30 shots but took the loss.

The Pointers are off to Mendota Heights, Minn. to face St. Thomas next weekend to face the Tommies. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13.
