PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-18 Team scored three consecutive goals in the second period to the defeat the No. 4/5 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team 5-2 in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon at the USA Hockey Arena.

After UW-Stevens Point tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period, the U.S. National Under-18 Team scored the game's next three goals to take a three-goal lead and held on from there.
Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) and
Jono Davis (La Verne, CA) tallied goals in the game for the Pointers.

Team USA jumped out to a 1-0 lead after James Sanchez scored halfway through the first period to give his team the edge heading into the first intermission. The score stood at 1-1 until Kalisz scored the equalizer for the Pointers 2:24 into the second from coming off an assist from
Stephan Beauvais (Shelby Township, MI).

Team USA then went on a three-goal run, with goals by Graham McPhee, Joey Anderson and Adam Fox to go ahead 4-1. With 38 seconds remaining in the second period, Davis cut the Team USA lead two on the power play off assists from Beauvais and
Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) for Davis' first goal in a UWSP uniform.

Team USA's Zack Walker would score 8:25 into the third period to secure the victory for Team USA.

Jesse Gordichuk (Penticton, BC) made 27 saves for the Pointers, while Joseph Woll made 25 saves for Team USA. Team USA outshot the Pointers 32-27 in the game.

The Pointers' power-play unit went 1-for-5 in the game and UWSP's penalty-killing unit killed off all five Team USA power plays.

UW-Stevens Point opens Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play next weekend. The Pointers play at UW-River Falls on Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. before returning to K.B. Willett Arena on Saturday, Dec. 5 to face UW-Superior at 7 p.m.
